Tom Morgan Jones has the latest news for us on the 'Screaming Sands' book series.
The latest book in the 'Screaming Sands' series is now out to complete this goulish tryptic of horror comedy. Published by Catnip Publishing there are three books in this series written by Sam Hay, The Day the Donkey Dropped Dead, The Ballistic Blanket and now finally Battle of the Beach Freaks. I worked on all the covers and had free range on the black and white interior illustrations.
There are wind swept goulish goings on a plenty here, headless types, ghosts, all sorts of witchcraft, time travel and battles for justice against some rather good (and of course I mean bad) villains. It'd been a cracking series to work on, I used my inky dip pen on paper as usual and then scanned these line illustrations into the computer where I had the opportunity to tickle the images if I fancied and weaved a spot of tonal magic using the paint bucket function in Photoshop.
I think one of my favourite images was the one that I based on the Lewis chess set, which shows some poor souls trapped in the chess pieces, what a fate to have! I do like those Lewis characters and this was my little homage to them. So apologies to those that originally carved them. I'm sure they're reading this.
I'm chuffed these books are all now available and if you pick them up wish you happy reading.
