The short list for the Roald Dahl Funny Books Prize 2013 was announced last week, and we here at Frances Mckay Illustration are happy to shout out that the wonderful Weasels by Elys Dolan has been shortlisted for the award.
The Roald Dahl Funny Prize, which was launched in 2008 in association with Michael Rosen, Children’s Laureate 2007-2009, is celebrating its sixth birthday this year. It aims to promote laughter and humour as a feel-good factor when reading, to draw attention to funny books as readable and enjoyable books and to reward authors and illustrators who write and illustrate books using humour.
Published by Nosy Crow (who having a stonking amount of nominees in this year's shortlist) Weasels is Elys' first picture book, which just goes to show what an abundance of talent this young lady has got.
And here is where Frances and all the team must blow their own trumpet, because this brings to three of the FMI illustration team being short listed for major book prizes this year alone;
and Donough O'Malley - for the Red House Award, which the above title went on to win the Scottish Book Trust Awards 2013 and the Phoenix Awards 2013.
And now Elys!
What a year it has been for everyone at this vibrant agency, and Frances is hugely proud of everone on her books.
Now if we can just get some weasels to steal away the Roald Dahl prize in a dastardly, megalomaniacal fashion, it would just top this great year.
