Who remembers what it was like to be a young lad? Well maybe if you are of the Lady persuasion it might be a stretch to do so, but if you are a man/boy like me(and we are many) it can all seem far far too close to recall. Someone else who seems to have a perfect insight into the world of the pre-teen boy is the writer, comedian, actor and all round creative type Jonathan Meres.
In the first of a series of books, The World of Norm:May contain nuts, which I was blessed to illustrate, drags us into the universe of our hero/pain in the neck Norm. A world of bikes and annoying brothers, get rich quick schemes and vexing girls. Poor Norm has had a major change happen in his life which he is none too happy about, but his own ill conceived actions do nothing to alleviate his weariness. It's almost like the whole World has it out for him.
This book was a treat to illustrate, it's not everyday I get to draw farting noises and French speaking Zebras. Or even dog poo come to think of it. Luckily I live near a park so getting visual reference of canine crap was not a problem.
The book is due for release in September by Orchard Publishing and will be followed hot on it's heels by a second book The World of Norm:May cause irritation. Don't miss either of them.
