Emily’s Surprising Voyage is a chapter book for young readers, written by me (www.suepurkiss.com). It tells the story of two children, Emily and Tom, and some of their adventures on board the ss Great Britain, Mr Brunel’s beautiful ship. It’s set in the 1850s, and the two children are travelling with their families out to Australia.

 

As a writer, one of the most exciting moments of the publishing process for me is when I see the first rough of the cover. That’s when it all starts to become real – my words are actually going to be printed and bound into a real live book!

Speaking of brown boots, I thought I'd show a few of the illustrations we are donating to Illustration Rally's ' Ganbare Nippon: Artwork donation appeal', and show our gratitude to Natsuki Otani and Erica Sharp from Illustration Rally - Right now these two must be working all hours organising this appeal and still the show goes on with, not only, the 'Ganbare Nippon: Don't Give Up Japan' rally (images of love and hope to Japan) but also the 'March Portrait' rallies.

As everyone knows, on Friday the 11th March, Japan faced the biggest earthquake in its history followed almost instantly by a devastating tsunami and near environmental tragedy as nuclear reactors failed and started to leak radiation.

Firstly for all the people affected by this awful tragedy and to those who have lost their lives, their families and their dearest friends we offer our solemn condolences, and hope that they may find peace and dignity.
