Children's Book Rally

 
Throughout September the wonderful Illustration Rally will be running a 'Children's Book Rally'. This is one to enter!

Make no mistake there is a nice prize for the winner but the real beauty of it, as with all Illustration Rally's rallys, is that all entries will be posted on their blog. We'll also be featuring the winner, runners up and note worthy entries too!

 

This is about showcasing the good, the budding and the talented, showing new ideas and hopefully pushing the boundaries of children's book illustration for all to enjoy, including our industry following. Are you ready?

Scribblemania at St Edmunds

 
Author and illustrator Chris Mould visited St Edmunds Catholic Primary School in Godalming and did Something Wickedly Weird – He stepped into their world, took them back to a time when he was seven years old and turned them all into aspiring writers and artists!

Nokia Shorts 2011 - Finalist Temujin Doran

 

 

 

 

Many congratulations to Temujin Doran on being picked as one of the eight finalists for the Nokia Shorts 2011 with 'The Adventures of a Cardboard Box'! Over 600 talented filmmakers pitched to Nokia Shorts this year with ideas ranging from documentary, to comedy, to post-apocalyptic western.

     'Rooks' by paper cut artist John Speight

John Speight comes from a family with a tradition of silhouette profile cutting, he's the third generation, although he has chosen other subjects and has created his own style. 'Rooks' is from a collection of his 'Finest Paper Cuts', all skilfully hand cut and mesmerising in detail yet, as images, they are beautiful in simplicity. John has been working as a professional paper cut artist since 1990 and shares a studio with his wife, professional jewellery designer, Lorna Speight.

Speaking of brown boots, I thought I'd show a few of the illustrations we are donating to Illustration Rally's ' Ganbare Nippon: Artwork donation appeal', and show our gratitude to Natsuki Otani and Erica Sharp from Illustration Rally - Right now these two must be working all hours organising this appeal and still the show goes on with, not only, the 'Ganbare Nippon: Don't Give Up Japan' rally (images of love and hope to Japan) but also the 'March Portrait' rallies.

Lili Cooney-Smith is six years old and goes to school at St Polycarps in Farnham. She sent us this wonderful ipad picture (above) called 'Easter'. Lili asks, 'Am I like David Hockney? I read that he has been drawing with an ipad too!'
