James de la Rue will soon finish work illustrating a short series of First World War adventures written by Terry Deary, of Horrible Histories fame.
From a scrawny young private getting picked for the team during a certain Christmas truce, an aerial photographer snapping behind enemy lines in his flimsy, canvas flying machine;
a Kentucky farm boy pinning his hopes, and those of hundreds of his comrades, on a brave messenger pigeon;
to little Millie back in England under threat from marauding Zeppelins carrying deadly payloads.
“War Game” and “The Last Flight” are published this week on 18th July, whilst “Pigeon Spy” and “Bomber Balloon” come out this September.
