Jane Eccles has been a very busy lady lately! Here she shares with us a bumper batch of silly sketches.
This has been my latest project, a huge total of three hundred drawings for a new book to be published by Macmillan Children's books in April 2013.
The brief asked for 300 small illustrations before Christmas, so in October I embarked on my task. The easiest way was to go through all the jokes and mark the ones which I felt I could do something funny with -then see if that added up to 300.
I tend to overdo it a bit and find drawing just one simple image difficult so the illustrations at times became more involved than the simple vignettes asked for. I had got to about drawing number 220 when Gaby Morgan at Macmillan suggested that for the remaining sections I just pick one or two jokes and do some general drop-in drawings to have scattered about and she would reshuffle the sections to even everything out.
This made life a whole lot easier and the remaining pictures were done in a trice without much faffing about from me. I absolutely loved doing the book as I really enjoy the challenge and speed of black and white drawings, though it does tend to make my eyes go funny after a while..
